The Controlled Substances Act (CSA) places all substances that were in some manner regulated under existing federal law into one of five schedules. This placement is based on the substance’s medical use, potential for abuse, and safety or dependence liability (U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, n.d.).

If you are ever concerned about any medication you have been prescribed, please talk to your provider directly.

What this Means for your Care

If you are actively taking a controlled medication, you are required by law to is required by law to meet with your provider face-to-face at least once every 3 months.
If it has been longer than 3 months since your last visit with your provider at Sonatix, your provider will not refill your prescription until you are seen.
Controlled medications cannot have automatic refills. It is your responsibility to follow the refill guidelines to ensure your prescription is refilled on time.
You will need a valid form of identification when you pick up controlled medications from your pharmacy.
